Broward County celebrates the diversity of its residents and visitors through attractions and events that honor its multicultural heritage. As a result, it provides an inspiring and educational experience for both the locals and visitors.

 

The African American Research Library and Cultural Center

This is a general-service library and research facility with over 75,000 books. It boasts of having the highest number of Black history books that are also written by blacks than any other facility in the United States of America.

The exhibit areas and auditorium of this library provide opportunities for people to exchange ideas and cultural values and also promote an understanding and appreciation of the contributions of persons of African descent.

The Museum of Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki

Nestled in the heart of Broward County, the Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki museum showcases the rich historical and cultural background of the Seminole people. On arrival, visitors are served to rare relics and life-size depictions of traditional practices of the Seminole people in the 1890s. Other than the permanent galleries, this museum also features rotating exhibit systems that build on significant topics featuring samples of thousands of things that belonged to the Seminole Tribe.

Florida Grand Opera

Founded in 1941, the Florida Grand Opera is the oldest performing arts organizations in Florida and the 7th oldest opera company in the US. Other than producing standard repertoire, the Florida Grand Opera also presents lesser-known operas. Yearly, their mainstage performances receive over 60,000 people whereas the education and outreach programs serve over 20,000 students.

Mockingbird Trail

This is an urban trail that features over two miles of luxuriant walkways, exercise routes, outdoor seating elements, modern urban-designed street furniture and more than12 public art installations. The Mockingbird trail encourages locals and visitors to get outdoors, discover and connect with Broward County’s fauna, flora and neighbors.

Downtown Hollywood

Every third Saturday of the month, people get together to enjoy an enchanted evening stroll along quaint, tree-lined sidewalks while being serenaded by the sounds of a jazz saxophone or the soft strings of a violin or harp.

Fat Village

Fat Village is Fort Lauderdale’s original art walk. On the last Saturday of each month, this street creates a culturally enriching experience that appeals to a diverse crowd of people to experience music, art, crafts, food and fun. Visitors can stroll through the open artists’ studios, art galleries, prop warehouse and even enjoy a play in one of these theatres or a street puppet show from 6pm to 11:00pm.

Stonewall Street Festival

This festival is held in honor of the Greenwich Village’s Stonewall rebellion in 1965. The Stonewall Street Festival takes place in the island city of Wilton Manors, which is also known for its high number of residents in this region.
